Lafayette Oxford University (LOU) Pride Weekend

The inaugural LOU Pride Weekend will be held May 5-8, 2016. Organized by UM student groups including UM Pride, in conjunction with The Sarah Isom Center for Women and Gender Studies, LOU Pride Weekend is designed to create inclusive, welcoming spaces for The University of Mississippi’s LGBTQ student body and for Lafayette County and Oxford’s queer community.

Events Calendar:

Thursday, May 5

code pink poster v2Pride Weekend festivities will kick off at Proud Larry’s with a Code Pink dance party, featuring UM student DJ’s Gogo & Special K, DJ Sgrotesque, and DJ Such & Such, along with a special dance performance: “Square Secrets,” featuring Hinge Dance Company, Hip Hop Rebs, and Ole Miss Student Dance. Event starts at 9 PM. The event is 18+. There will be a $5 cover.  

 

Friday, May 6

GEE-Drag

Lavender Graduation:

The UM Center for Inclusion and Cross Cultural Engagement, along with campus partners, is holding its inaugural Lavender Graduation, celebrating LGBTQ students graduating from UM. The ceremony will be held in the UM Student Union Ballroom from 12-1 PM. Graduating students, family, friends, and university faculty and staff should RSVP by April 22 at http://inclusion.olemiss.edu.

Drag Show:

At 9 PM, Proud Larry’s will play proud host to a GoDiva’s Eleganza Extravaganza drag show. Event is 18+. Tickets are $5 each.

 

 

 

Saturday, May 7

Pride Weekend will culminate in the LOU Pride Parade, beginning and ending at the Oxford University Depot. The parade will begin forming at 2 PM (please arrive before this time) in the Ford Center parking lot with a start time of 2:30 PM. The parade will take Presidential Debate Way to University Avenue, then up to Lamar Blvd, around the Courthouse Square, and back to the Dept. All are welcome to march with the parade or line the route in support.

Sunday, May 8

download (1)At 4 PM, The Shelter on Van Buren will host LGBTQ Shorts: Struggles and Celebrations of Being Out in the Deep South, sponsored by Crossroads Film Society and Oxford Film Festival. Click for more information.

Cost is $10 for Adult Small – Extra Large and $12 for 2XL – 5 XL. They will be available in red, orange, yellow (gold), green, blue (navy), and purple.
