Kate Kellum, Ph.D.

Dr. Karen Kellum currently serves as the Associate Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of Mississippi. She holds a master’s degree in Education from Purdue University and a doctoral degree in Psychology from the University of Nevada at Reno; however, she practically grew up right here on the university campus, attending Lafayette County schools and getting her undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Mississippi. 

About her influences as a feminist, Kellum says, "My parents and my extended family of aunts, uncles, grandmothers, and grandfathers created a context in which it would be difficult to be anything other than a person who believes all people should be afforded equal rights.  I didn’t really know humans needed a word for this belief until well into my teens. Then I took a couple of Women's Studies courses while an undergraduate."

As a child, The Grove was her playground, and she was very excited to return to the university after finishing her professional studies. She and her spouse have 4 cats which answer by name and are trained to give high fives on demand. She loves people and believes in world domination through peace, love and understanding. 

The project on campus of which Dr. Kellum is most proud is Famished Feminist Fridays — the gathering of feminists for lunch on the third Friday of every month at the Rebel market. "This idea sprung from Dr. Harker’s interview for the Sarah Isom Center Director," she says, "and we’ve kept it going ever since."
