Amber King, M.A.

Instructor of Writing & Rhetoric

Amber King has been an instructor in the Department of Writing and Rhetoric since fall of 2023. She received her M.A. in Composition and Rhetoric from The University of Alabama and her B.A. in English from Mississippi University for Women. She particularly enjoys working with underprepared students and believes that the Humanities are fundamental not only for life but also for career preparedness. Current research interests include how to foster empathy through classroom instruction; the intersection between soft skills development in Humanities courses and workforce success in Mississippi; and supporting rural students in the composition classroom. She lives in Tupelo with her wife, son, four dogs, and two cats. 

Gender Studies -Related Research Interests:  What is the relationship between the gender identity of college instructors and the development of soft skills among Mississippi college graduates? What role does gender (and genderedness) play in the push to defund humanities programs (including DEI)? What is the impact on the Mississippi workforce, particularly Mississippi industries' ability to hire and retain well-rounded employees?
