Christine Lee, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor of anthropology
Christine Lee is a bioarchaeologist who has worked on human skeletal remains from archaeological and museum contexts in East Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. Her research focuses on ethnic and gender identity in ancient cultures. She is presently working on a project with Romanian and Mongolian colleagues documenting the eastern and western frontiers of the Mongol Conquest (Genghis Khan). Her past research has looked at Chinese footbinding, immigration patterns in ancient imperial China, trauma along the Silk Road, state sanctioned criminal mutilating sentencing, and women warriors in Mongolia. Another research project will examine the roles women inhabited in East Asia from 2000 BCE-1600 CE.
