CARMEN SANCHIS-SINISTERRA, PH.D.
Instructional Associate Professor of Modern Languages
Carmen Sanchis-Sinisterra is a New Yorker from Valencia, Spain. After being a high school teacher for eight years, she came to the U.S. to pursue her M.A. and Ph.D. in Hispanic Cultural Studies. Before coming to the University of Mississippi in 2018, she taught at the City University of New York and the College of William & Mary. At UM she teaches "Spanish for the Health Professions," "Introduction to Hispanic Literature" and "Cultures of Spain." Her research explores contemporary themes affecting the lives of women. Her book "Masculinities in Crisis and Practices of Feminist Resistance" examined representations of masculinity by feminist novelists and filmmakers. Currently she is studying the contributions of Spanish visual artists to the feminist discourse on care work and domestic labor.
