ELISA MODOLO, Ph.D.

Instructional Associate Professor of Italian

Dr. Elisa Modolo is the Director of the Italian Program in the Modern Languages Dept. of the University of Mississippi. She is originally from Venice, Italy, where she achieved her B.A. and M.A. in Italian Literature and Philology (Ca' Foscari University). She then earned her Ph.D. in Italian Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, together with her Graduate Certificates in Language Teaching, Cinema Studies, and Women & Gender Studies. Her research focus is Italian rewritings of Ovid's Metamorphoses in the Renaissance and Baroque eras, as well as Italian women authors and movie directors.

Gender Studies -Related Research Interests: Italian women authors and movie directors. The Isom fellowship will fund Dr. Modolo's research on 20th-century author Sibilla Aleramo and the evolution of her idea of motherhood in her autobiographical novel "Una Donna" (A Woman).
